What is Not Covered in the Honda Factory Warranty?

March 15th, 2016 by

Bob Boyte Honda is the place to go for Honda warranty work, but many people don’t know what is and what isn’t covered by the Honda facotory warranty. Every new Honda vehicle comes with several warranties, and we want to help make it clear what isn’t covered. While most drivers know about the powertrain warranty and how it protects your engine and drivetrain, there are other aspects of the Honda basic warranty that protect your vehicle. Keep on reading to learn more about what these warranties do and do not offer!

New Vehicle Limited Warranty

Every Honda factory warranty includes the New Vehicle Limited Warranty for 3 years or 36,000 miles–whichever comes first. One of the most common questions we get is whether tires are covered under the Honda factory warranty. While this warranty will cover some repairs — like your battery — it doesn’t cover the tires. Though this Honda basic warranty covers a lot, there are some things that the New Vehicle Limited Warranty does not cover. These include normal wear and tear or deterioration of any part, cleaning and polishing, the adding of fluids (unless they’re needed as part of a warranty repair), broken, chipped, or cracked windshield or window glass (unless it’s due to a defect in material or workmanship), cosmetic flaws, and expendable maintenance items (such as filters or brake pads and linings) when they’re replaced due to normal wear.

Honda Seat Belt Warranty

The Honda Seat Belt Limited Warranty continues for 15 years or 150,000 miles–whichever comes first. This warranty does not cover the replacement of a properly-functioning seat belt assembly strictly for comfort or cosmetic reasons, nor does it cover failure caused by abuse, alteration, accidental damage, misuse, or malfunction resulting from a collision; or components of the Supplemental Restraint System that interact with the seat belts–these components fall under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty.

Rust Perforation Limited Warranty

The Rust Perforation Limited Warranty is the part of your factory warranty that protects against damage from rust, running for 5 years with no mileage limit; however, it does not cover surface rust on the underbody or any part other than the body panels; rusting of body panels that were repaired, replaced, or refinished after retail sale of the vehicle (unless this was done under warranty); body panel rust caused by misuse, abuse, or lack of maintenance; rusting where paint has been damaged by road hazards such as stones and debris; rust caused by immersion of the body panel in water, mud or sand, or resulting from exposure to corrosive gas or industrial fallout; and paint matching.
